Animals have within them the capacity to love us unconditionally. The bond we share with our pets is unique: our pets are often as much family members as our children and relatives.
So when we lose our beloved pet, we grieve. It's a natural process. And we experience many of the same intense, painful, profound feelings associated with the loss of a beloved human being.
Bereavement is not always only due to the death of a pet. When a pet goes missing it's an unresolved loss that is often worse to deal with. Bereavement brings with it feelings of deep despair.
We can sometimes feel isolated when coming to terms with the death – or loss of a beloved pet/companion. It is an intensely painful experience at the best of times. But perhaps there is no one to talk to, as the days and weeks unfold. Friends and family can often be sympathetic initially. However, when grief becomes too much to deal with, and you feel overwhelmed, their sympathy can quickly diminish -- their attachment was never as deep as yours, and they don't always understand what you are going through.
Our pet bereavement counselling service will help you work through your grief and enable you to develop ways of coping effectively with your loss.
Our pet bereavement counselling service
Our aim is always to give you a professional, affordable and responsible service in which you can explore your feelings and concerns, helping you to come to terms with grief, and empowering you to move forward, enabling you to feel more in control of your life.
Often a few sessions of weekly counselling may be all that is needed. Your needs will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure counselling continues to be beneficial for you.
Counselling Sessions
Counselling sessions can be flexible but are usually 50 minutes duration. I am a full member of my professional body, the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and I adhere fully to their code of ethics and codes of conduct. More information may be found on the BACP web site here.
Many clients find telephone counselling invaluable – and just as effective and convenient, even if they live locally. Fees for this will be £25 per session. Concessions may be available, depending on personal circumstances.
